clints back!

Its been a while and let me just tell you that its been quite a wild ride. ever since the website came up ive been plugging my photography work. i had a few jobs lined up. i lost some of them cause of budget or time constraints. but what i realise is that u cant keep everyone happy. last week i did a shoot for intercontinental hotel. its an international chain of hotels. they gave me a short brief as to what they needed. and i shot the photographys just like they wanted.

the idea was to shoot their outlets. like the restaurants and the mexican club and pool area etc. but to shoot it in a dramatized way. i stylized most of the shots and i think they turned out great...

turns out the general manager thought they lacked depth. he claims they are flat and required more people in it. i disaggree but then again the client is always right...

Yeh Client is always right. But well at times, when business booms, clients can come kiss my ass. Lol!!

lacked depth in what way? ... I'd say there's only so much one can do in that kind of a setting; and I think you've done a good job.

cheers mate!

i guess angles make a difference

what i feel is that you stood facing the corners of tables, slabs, the pool and clicked. but i dont understans how did u gave it that 'wide' look. can i do it with my P&S cam with some settings?

Clint, mate - some awesome pics here. Nice work esp the lighting. And dont worry about the client. As they sy its how you look at it - Cli(e)nt is always right! (sorry couldnt help it)

Now I have typed this twice and both time blogger fucked it up for me. I wanted to present a few critiques and figuring as I love some good constructive criticism I dont think you'd mind some too. Just my POV.

My first question is what lens were you using? I figure its a wide angle. Because I find that there is some amount of barrel distortion in the pics. Esp the ones with the floor design in them. This tends to take my attention off the subject (which would be the lady and layout). Maybe aligning youself with the pattern would have helped remove this. And the pillar tells me that it could use some straightening/levelling. As do the pics by the pool (observe how the building in the BG appears tilted).

Staying on the poolside wouldnt you think the evening light would be more suited with softer tones and warmer reflections/colours. And a raking light does add some depth sometimes.

Before you get thinking on ways of beheading me I;ll sneak in just one more - the lady sitting on the table with you shooting from behind the man. Here too the tilted angle kinda makes me wanna tilt my head a bit and more importantly the mantle/bar behind the lady's head certainly takes my eye off her and the table setup. I think a much shallower DOF to blur the BG and a light focussing on her would help the matters a bit.

Once again do take my words with a bucket of salt. I have been known to go overboard with them. Do share your views too.

But mate - the first three pics - SIMPLY AWESOME! I really loved those cos I have been wantiong to try something like that for ages. Maybe Intercon is listening ;-)

some nice pics there. I especially liked the one with the woman dancing with oh so much flair. yup, that was dramatic.

I'd believe your client is mainly bitching because he wants to see more business in the hotel (i.e. more people)? More often than not, people want to use all sorts of media to cover their flaws like concealer. Don't take it too hard, the pictures are nice.
