Conversation with the ceiling 005

Topic: religion

As touchy and as much as I try to stay away from this topic, the other day I did do something talking with my ceiling about it. There was just too much going for me to not think about it in the twilight of bedtime. Religious fanatics please do not continue from this point on cause I don’t want to read your insane banter on my reverbs page!

Considering all that’s been happening and how everyone around the world is behaving in the name of religion, I wonder how much stock goes into the fact of fighting for ones religion. And, not trying to be politically correct, I’m talking about all religions.

See this is the way I look at it. Most people have no choice in what religion they practice. And let me tell you why. Religion is a descendent concept. Chances are that an individual practices the religion his/her parents practice. No one is born knowing about what religion he is going to be put in. The concept of religion, as important as it may be, could find its biggest flaw as well as its only means for continuity here.

That was one point. Here’s, the other. No normal person has an objective view of religion. Meaning that he/she has nothing to compare it to. Its like going to buy a new pair of shoes. You just buy the ones you see first instead of trying others on. There are only a handful of people born without any religion. And those are the prime candidates to choose their own religion and be proud of choosing that religion. And the truth is that if your parents don’t inculcate the concept of religion inside you, you probably wont bother with it anyways. And we on the other hand judge those who don’t have any religion to practice. Instead they actually have one less thing to have wars over.

Don’t be stupid people! Get the objective view…

You probably would be waging holy wars and too if you were born in that religion. So think twice about it before you get all righteous about what religion you practice!

Well I got most of it... but the last bit was somewhat confusing...
What exactly you saying?
That if I were Muslim, I'd wanna cut people's heads off if they didn't believe in Islam?
That's bullshit. Religion has nothing to do with the person you are. It's the person you are that matters... it's the thinking. And it's sad that religion today still has the power to affect someone's thinking.
I chose my religion. And it ain't islam, it ain't christianity, it ain't hinduism, or whatever other religions their exist.
I chose humanity and honesty to be my way of life, whether they like me, or hate me.
To repeat it again... Religion is no excuse for the way you turn out to be.

firstly. islam is not the only religion which has had holy wars. do your research and ull find out that christianity, hinduism etc, all have had holy wars... islam's just the most recent ones. You, conman, see the objective picture, and i aggree with you as far as the unjustification of war is concerned. im not talkin about the justification of killing. im talkin to the rightous bastards who judge other religions. tellin them that they could probably be that way depending on where they were born & how passionate they are.
also i bet that you outta all the people would chop someones head off if they messed with your passion which being love for your woman? think about it mate. its not religion persay... its passion...

Firstly, I am not saying Islam is the only religion which has had holy wars, but yes, I am saying it is one of the most misinterpreted religions, and that I doubt if the preachings of Islam is the cause of so many Muslims turning to terrorism, and SO MANY OTHER Terrorists turning to Islam.
It's them who derive pleasure from killing, and very conveniently blame it on the preachings of Islam and talk of heaven.
Anyway... When I said Islam I was just giving you an example. Sad, but it's true, all the bombings or killings at least I hear of are being done in the name of Islam... At least most of them. That's real sad.
Sure, Hinduism, Christianity have had holy wars, but never have I witnessed such a constant holy war that the believers in Islam apparently fighting. It's virtually on-going isn't it. Shoulnd't it end? Can't they accept people folloowing other religions and being happy, instead of literally ripping off people's head off their shoulders, screaming Allah Ho Akbar Allah Ho Akbar.
And no Clint you got me wrong there. Or no matter how aggressive you think I am, don't misunderstand the aggression as violence.
if someone does something wrong, I am NO BODY to get even with him. I believe in the existence of a God, and I believe in everyone facing Him at some point or the other.
Leave alone chopping someone's head off, I woulnd't even get violent if someone tortured my entire family to death.
And it ain't because I'd be scared, it's because I'm gonna practise what I preach.
I'm gonna turn the other cheek.

i aggree with you mate. and maybe the point is being missunderstood. this post is a self actualisation post. makin you think that what if you were in a religion with conflit. would you still choose to turn the other cheek? or would you join in? its all the matter or where you are born... to a large extent at least... do u understand me now?

The way I see it..
1) the people who have a problem with the religion they're born into, change it. There are so many (voluntary) conversions going on in the world all the time - Yousuf Youhana is now Mohammad Yousuf.
2) The people who don't have a problem with the religion they were born into, follow it (like perhaps my mother).
3) And then last there is me (and I'm not speaking for anyone else here. NO generalisations). Born into a religion. Disagree with most of it. Mostly, don't care much about it. But never bother to convert, because don't agree with the modern textbook meaning of "religion" in any case.

A Jehovah's witness came to sell some of her books. She showed pictures of people eating apples and petting lions sitting beside them. She called it 'Heaven'

The guy said, 'Do they do drugs there?' ;)

Btw, what band is this? 'This is your life'??

I agree. Yes we can 'change' our religion if we dont agree with the one we are born into, but I guess very few people do it. We just grow to accept and appreciate the salient features of the religion we are following... nobody does a logical analysis... ever.

cowlick: good on you mate! atleast you know where u stand...

Casa: everyone should do a logical analysis about what their faith is about. i have, and it makes a lotta sense in understanding the guidelines of what every religion has set instead of just following what everyone else is doin like a bunch of sheep.

Khizzy: christ said once: "he who hasn't sinned may cast the first stone"
so what gives me or anyone the right to bash any religion?

I don't think religion is a part of the package when your born, it largely depends on your family upbringing and personal attitude. Like i don't really care much for religion cuz i don't think it matters, which doesn't mean i'm an athiest i just dont care about religion. I have friends who were born in good christian homes and turned athiest. A Zorastrian friend who is a complete believer. Its totally a personal thing, and fantaticism should not be equated with religion, it should be equated with brainwashing. It spread across, regions cultures and people... not specific to a religion

me: dont you get stuff in where ure at? glad you liked the song though

karuna: you are but a handful of people who think that way. if only the mass populus thought like you, maybe we'd have had lesser holy wars. maybe you dont come from a family that imposes a the stringent rules of religion on u, or maybe ure just a rebel. but that cant be said to everybody who is born in a religion. you think this way cause of the experiences you've had, not everybody lives your life... like you said its a personal thing. and plus i dont know of any other fanaticism besies religion or polictics. and most of the time they both go hand in hand.
